The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted And the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, And Long-term Health - Thomas M. Campbell II, T. Colin Campbell There are so many factors correlated to food consumption that I have a hard time thinking about health differences between Chinese and Americans being linked so thoroughly to animal protein. That's not to say that the book doesn't raise interesting points, and I certainly agree that the typical American diet includes too much fat and sugar and not enough fruits and vegetables. The rat studies he mentions seemed like the benefits of a diet low in animal protein taper off around the point that 10% of calories come from animal protein, so there seems a diminishing return where one can reap the benefits without being fully vegetarian or vegan. I also have a hard time taking seriously the book's last section that seems to describe a national conspiracy with scientists, industry leaders, and policy makers keeping us sick in order to make money.I'm glad I read the book because it's one frequently mentioned in other books I'm reading and suggested by people whose blogs I follow as I'm making adjustments in the way I eat. It's not life-changing for me the way it has been for some of these people, but it still has valuable information.
