Made for Another World

The Strain - Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan If I had the option, I'd probably give this book 3.5 stars, but I rounded up because I enjoyed this enough to want to read the next book in the trilogy. My favorite parts of the story were Abraham Setrakian's flashbacks, and at times, I found myself wishing that was the story I was reading instead of the one in modern NY. Dr. Goodweather's ex-wife annoyed me so much that I skimmed anything in her voice, and I was glad she wasn't as big a focus as Eph and Nora. While I enjoy my paranormal romances and sexy vampires, I appreciated this book's more horrific take on vampires and the focus on the virus. The Strain was a good mix of horror and thriller, and the multiple 3rd-person viewpoints gave it a cinematic feel that appealed to me.
